Jablonov belongs without a doubt among the oldest villages in the Spiš region. The Latin form of the name appears for the first time in a document issued by the Hungarian king Adalbert IV, dated 19th September1249, where it is mentioted as "terra Almas" (land of apples - the Slovak, jabloň means apple tree) and again as (villa) Almas (villages of apples), when it was donated to Matthias, the Provost of Spiš, by Adalbert´s father Andreas II. The village was destroyed during Tatar incursion (1241 - 1242), but it was resettled by German colonist invited here by the Provost of Spiš, who also granted them the rights of a small town. They could elect for themselves a mayor and sworn-in councillors, and in 1318 they were granted the right to hold weekly markets. Even so, in 1388 the people of Jablonov rose up against their landlord, the Provost of Spiš. As a result, King Sigismund retracted those rights, and from then on Jablonov developedas a simple feudal village. At first it belonged to the Provost and Chapter of Spiš, but in the late 18th century it became the property of the Spiš bishopric. JAblonov was affiliated to the cathedral church of St. Martin at the Spiš Chapter. Since the village was so close to the latter, no church was built here until 1827. It was censencrated to St. Mary Magdalen, and in fact it is quite possible that a chapel dedicated to this saint previously stood in the village. Otherwise it is difficult to explain how the image of St. Mary Magdalen made its way into the field of the official seal of the village of Jablonov, which it had had made in 1788. In the village there are several buildings which are incribed in the State Heritage Fund Register as items of national cultural heritage.
